Description

The Double Degrees is a unique offer provided by the ELGS through its wide network of acknowledged Universities. The ELGS provides two-year double degrees in Law & Governance with different universities allowing for the student to pass through the admissions process only once and to deepen their knowledge in two topics within the framework of one program.

Double Degree LLM in EU Law and US Law: NOT CONDUCTED THIS YEAR

One year at ELGS in Greece and one year at Temple University Beasley School of Law in the US.

This two year taught degree program offers students an in-depth look at key issues of European Union law and of US law.

In the first year students will attend the one year LLM in EU law which enables students to choose from a variety of elective courses addressing the most pressing themes being discussed throughout Europe. In their second year students will attend a one year program on US law at Temple University Beasley School of Law, run in the United States and designed especially for foreign trained lawyers please visit: http://www.law.temple.edu/academics/degrees/llm-foreign-trained/ .

Upon successful completion of the second year of the program at Temple, students will be eligible to sit for the US Bar exam in the State of New York City. Students that graduate from this program will receive a degree from the ELGS and one from Temple.

To whom it is addressed

This program has a single admissions process and as a result students must have a first degree in the legal sciences. The first year of the program at the ELGS is offered in a format convenient for professionals with all class hours outside of traditional business hours. Please note however that in the second year students must attend Temple University in the United States on a full time basis for one academic year.

Program Content

The LLM in EU law is a one year taught degree program with a thesis requirement, earning a total of 60 ECTS credits. Courses are led by key theorists and practitioners in their fields, and delivered through classic lectures and interactive tutorials. Some courses will also integrate other teaching methodologies where appropriate, such as moot courts, site visits to various public and private offices, as well as group presentations. Students must successfully complete 6 compulsory modules and 2 optional modules, followed by a 15,000 word thesis.

The LLM for Foreign Trained Lawyers at Temple Law School in Pennsylvania, USA is designed for international attorneys, government officials, corporate legal counsel, and recent law graduates who are interested in receiving a degree in American law, learning about the U.S. legal system, and becoming leaders in the global market. Students will be required to take an introduction to the US Legal System, courses on Legal Research and Writing, and at least one first year JD course on Contracts, Civil Procedure I, Criminal Law, Torts Property or Constitutional Law. The relevant credits of the program, as measured by the US system are 24.

Admissions Requirements and Procedures

Academic Requirements
Students from all over the world are admitted following a rigorous application process. Prospective students for the LLM in EU Law and US Law should have a first degree in law, in accordance with the requirements of their host country, which grants them access to the legal profession or to the qualifying exams for admission to the bar in their country of studies.
Language Requirements

All courses of the program will be taught in the English language. As a result, students originating from non-English speaking countries must evidence their level of English language skills in accordance with the following:

  • TOEFL Internet based, Score of 90 or above
  • IELTS, 5.5
  • Duolingo, 95
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency, Grade B or above
  • Any other internationally recognized test with equivalent marks

Application

To apply for a program, students must first review the application form and its requirements to ensure the collection of appropriate material. By the time they have gathered all documentation they should proceed with payment of the onetime application fee either at the relevant online portal or at via a bank transfer. Students should always add their surname, initial letter of their first name and Degree title in the deposit description. They can then proceed with their application which can only be conducted online and submit it along with the supporting documentation, listed below. All support documents must be in electronic format and uploaded to be sent with the application, except for the 2 reference letters, which should be emailed directly from Referees to LLM admissions at doubledegree@elgs.eu with a clear indication that it concerns the Double Degree. Tuition fee

Tuition and Aid

Tuition for both EU and International students for the LLM in EU and US Law program is 13,000€ for the first year at the ELGS. The fee for the second year at Temple University will be announced shortly.

Please be advised that there are other direct and indirect costs related to attendance, in addition to tuition fees, such as books, supplies, accommodation and living expenses which must be taken into consideration by students when applying.

Scholarships are available for a select number of students and take into consideration merit.
