ELGS MA in Global Rule of Law & Democracy Study visit to the Tribunal of Almada
The students enrolled in the ELGS Master’s Program in Global Rule of Law and Democracy undertook on 25 March 2025 a study visit to the Administrative and Fiscal Tribunal of Almada. During this visit, they had the opportunity to attend a court hearing and discuss the case with a court judge.
The students deemed the visit inspiring and beneficial for enhancing their understanding of judicial procedures. Additionally, they participated in a compelling discussion with the President of the Tribunal, Justice Ana Pinhol, and with Justice Sofia Claro, concerning the training of judges and the significant representation of women in judicial professions in Portugal, noting that women hold many of the most senior positions within the Portuguese judicial system.
The visit was organized as part of the study module on “Fair justice, standards of justice and judicial independence” dedicated to analyzing fundamental aspects of the judicial system as the cornerstone of the rule of law.
The students will also engage in a Moot Court exercise to develop public speaking, legal research, and critical thinking skills that will prepare them for their careers.
