Environmental Governance Training School (UNEP/MAP MEPIELAN)
UNEP/MAP-MEPIELAN Online Training School
A week-long online training school by UNEP/MAP, MEPIELAN Centre, and EPLO offers knowledge exchange, discussion, and capacity building on sustainable environmental governance in the Mediterranean under the Barcelona Convention system.
The school will run from May 5 to May 10, 2025
This Training School is an educational implementation of:
- the Barcelona Convention System for the Protection of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Mediterranean
- the Mediterranean Strategy on Sustainable Development (MSSD)
- the UNEP/MAP Medium-Term Strategy 2022 – 2027
Course aims ;
Develop
a broad and comprehensive knowledge of the interdisciplinary methodology, understanding of the processes and innovative approaches to sustainable governance within the UNEP/MAP Barcelona Convention system
Explore
the creative inter-linkages of environmental law and environmental governance with political science, ecology, technology, biological science, climate science, economics and social sciences
Use an interactive approach
to learning through a user-friendly educational platform promoted by the MEPIELAN Centre, promoting active learning methodologies and supporting interactive features to engage participants in the discussion of the topics at hand
The 2025 Sessions delve into four interrelated subjects:
Session 1:
The Barcelona Convention System for the Protection of the Marine Environment and Coastal Region of the Mediterranean
Session 2:
Specific Issues of Law and Governance for the Protection of the Environment and Sustainability of the Mediterranean Sea Region and their Relation to Sustainable Development Goals
Session 3:
Public Participation and Sustainability Governance in the Mediterranean Region: International Interlinkages
Session 4:
Sustainable Consumption and Production in the Mediterranean Investment and Environment in the Mediterranean
The school is addressed to:
- University graduates and doctoral researchers in legal, political, ecological, economic, biological, and social sciences, particularly from Mediterranean countries
- Professionals from public/private institutions, NGOs focused on environment and sustainable development, and junior diplomats
Application Fees: 200€ for students and 400€ for professionals.
